Jeff Lewis was born on January 16, 1970 in Edwardsville, Illinois where he would grow up. Interested in makeup from a very young age, Jeff was influenced by the blockbuster movie “Star Wars”. Being fascination by the special effects makeup, Jeff would stay up late to watch horror movies, of which his favorites were the Universal’s classic monster movies and would try and recreate the monsters with Halloween masks his father would buy him. As a member of the local Jaycees organization, Jeff’s father, Jim Lewis, would take Jeff and his brother to the haunted house sponsored by the Jaycees to work in and to help build for Halloween.

After graduating high school, Jeff attended Illinois State University in Bloomington, Illinois, where he pursued his interests in makeup by joining the theatre department. Although the university did not have a curriculum for makeup, Jeff would chase his makeup interests through independent studies where he researched makeup techniques and recruited the assistance of his theatre teacher, Frank Veberall, who allowed Jeff to study makeup in regards to film and television. While attending ISU, Jeff was called upon to design and apply makeup for many of the university’s theatrical performances.

Jeff graduated from Illinois State University in 1992 and was accepted into Damon Charles’ Institute of Studio Makeup. At the age of 23, Jeff left Illinois to attend the school located in California, where he received his basic training in the craft of film and television makeup.

Jeff’s first start in the industry would be working on low budget films such as “Recon”, “Frankenstein Sings,” “Heart of Darkness” and “Tycus.” In 1994 he was hired by Twentieth Century Fox to design and apply the makeup's for the popular children’s television series, “Beetleborgs.” Once he was accepted into the Makeup Artists Union Local 706, Jeff went on to work on numerous television programs including, “The Tiger Woods Story,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel” and the hit film “Flinstones: Viva Rock Vegas.” His most notable work has been on the Star Trek television series and feature films. In 1998, renowned makeup artist Michael Westmore, employed the skills of Jeff for the “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine” series. Impressed with Jeff’s abilities, Westmore would continue to keep Jeff employed at Paramount Studios to work on television series “Star Trek: Voyager” and placed on staff for the current series “Star Trek: Enterprise”. His skills were also called upon to help with the feature films “Star Trek: Insurrection” and “Star Trek: Nemesis”.

Jeff has been honored for his exceptional talent on the “Star Trek” series with five Emmy nominations for “Outstanding Makeup for a Series”. He has also been nominated for the Makeup and Hair Guild Awards and was presented with the Outstanding Young Alumni Award by his college Alameda, Illinois State University, for his outstanding achievements in his personal life, as well as, his stellar makeup career.

Jeff’s extraordinary work in the makeup field has earned him a distinguished reputation among the most celebrated makeup artists and film and television stars in the industry. The list of talent he has worked with include celebrities; Mark Addy, Jason Alexander, Scott Bakula, Jolene Blalock, Stephen Baldwin, David Boreanas, LeVare Burton, Jeffrey Combs, Jonathan Frakes, Peter Gabriel, Thomas Gibson, Dennis Hopper, Finola Hughs, Kristin Johnson, Jane Krakowski, Jerry Lewis, The ‘Rock’ (Duane Johnson), Jerry Ryan, Rick Schroeder, Patrick Stewart, Connor Trinneer and Luke Wilson.

In addition to his makeup career, Jeff is currently in negotiations to produce his first feature film with his partner and star of “Star Trek: Enterprise,” Connor Trinneer, entitled “Boris and Bela, A Haunting Collaboration.”
